Many of you have asked how you can support me and Light Art Space during this difficult time. Here are a few ways:
I do plan to reopen as soon as the State of New Mexico determines it is safe.
I am dreaming of and scheming for upcoming exhibitions and workshops.
I also have been making some new images – see the end of this post for a few examples.
To those who left of us this week I say:
Thank you, Helen (Nana), for loving my son
Thank you, Eric for a lifetime devoted to Pinhole Photography
Thank you, John Prine for the stories. I hope you are kissing that girl on the tilt – a whirl…
Please stay safe and keep in touch.

Join us on March 14th, 5 – 7 pm, to celebrate two new exhibitions. The North Gallery features the juried exhibition “Provocation of Place”, presenting images by 36 artists all members of PaperWorks, a Tucson based art group. “It’s Time to Address’er Drawers”, an interaction wire based installation by Joel Armstrong occupies the Flash Gallery. Three workshops take place Saturday and Sunday, March 14th and 15th. Read on for more details…
Joel states “It’s Time to Address’er Drawers was first conceived after my mother passed away. When cleaning out the house, we discovered in her chest of drawers a stack of sealed envelopes, some addressed and others not. Inside were her journals that documented various disappointments in her life (including me!). Most importantly, they revealed the tumultuous and abusive relationship between my parents.”
March 13 – April 19th
Reception March 14th, 5 -7 pm
Juried by Karen Hymer, Director of Light Art Space

Joel Armstrong grew up in Corpus Christi, TX, where he grew to love fishing, salt air, humidity, and rust. After attending Texas Tech University, he spent over 20 years combined as an illustrator and graphic designer. While art director for GROUP, a magazine for youth ministers, he returned to College to receive his MFA in drawing from Colorado State University (2001). At CSU, he began working with rusted wire and started doing installation art for close to 15 years after graduation. He has continued to exhibit these installations throughout the country and also London.
