Images Of The Human Body Using Alternative Photographic Techniques
This is a call for photographic imagery that focuses on the human body as depicted in hand-made prints using alternative photographic processes. Public or private spaces, full-body or partial bodies, nude or clothed, self-images or of others… male, female, non-binary, emotional, intellectual, confrontational, questioning, spiritual, sexual, sensual… All forms of exploration are welcome including images that examine subjects such as identity, intimacy, love, sexuality, gaze, social and cultural structure, beauty, ritual, and voyeurism.
Works created in the last four years are eligible.Acceptable processes include, but are not limited to, Cyanotype, Gum Bichromate, Van Dyke, Palladium/Platinum, Photopolymer Gravure, Copper Plate Gravure, Salt, Tintype, Silver Gelatin, Chemigrams, Phytograms, Lumens, Chromogenic prints, Hand-applied emulsions, Photo-encaustic, Carbon, Gumoil, Instant transfers and lifts, and Hand-manipulated (altered surface) digital prints. Combinations of these processes are welcome.Digital photographic images can be used in combination with other processes, but straight digital prints will not be accepted. 3D and experimental work is encouraged.

Summer is here… where did June go? The monsoons are moistening the Silver City area, fires are still burning, and local activities are picking up. Today we say goodbye to Beauty Where You find It: An exhibition to honor the recipients of the Denis Roussel Awards. It was an honor and a pleasure to host such an amazing group of hand-made photographs. July in Silver City is all about the CLAY FESTIVAL! Next Friday evening two new exhibitions open: Reflections In Clay (a juried exhibition) and House of Judgment (a solo exhibition of clay work by Jamie Bates Slone) and it is the Silver city First Friday Gallery Walk. In July we feature Through The Body: Images Of The Human Body Using Alternative Photographic Techniques, juried by Michael Puff. The Silver City First We have some great workshops coming up… We hope to see you this summer!

Flash and I recently returned to Silver City after two wonderful weeks on the Oregon coast. The three workshops I taught (two at Sitka Center For Art and Ecology and one at LightBox in Astoria) were filled with terrific students who made stunning prints.
Spring winds are with us in Silver City and the weather is lovely. Beauty abounds at Light Art Space with the installation of “Beauty Where You Find It: an exhibition to honor the recipients of the Denis Roussel Awards.” The hand-made photographic prints, made utilizing 19th and 20th-century techniques, by 20 artists from England, Spain, and across the United States, provide the viewer with a unique in-person art experience. Reception this Friday 5 pm – 7 pm.
