September in Silver City is glorious! Temperatures are cool, the sky is full of billowy clouds, and the air smells of roasting green chili. Here is what is happening at Light Art Space.
Tonight (from 5 – 7), we are celebrating two new exhibitions at Light Art Space. In the North Gallery, The Power of Two: Collaboration features collaborative work by 22 Silver City artists.
Participating artists are Susan Mach, Nichole Graf, Kathleen Koopman, Delia deVer, Karen Hymer, Jessica Laurel Reese, Mark Breithaupt, Mark Cantrell, Chelsea Boone, Michael Metcalf, Franky DeAngelis, Hilary Klein, Lisa Rush, Vicki Gadsberry, Mary Gates, Maree McHugh, Terri Sankovitz, Deborah Snider, Paula Manning-Lewis, Kit West, Rhonda Munzinger, and Diane Kleiss.
In the Flash Gallery, we present Fulcrum, new work by Silver City artist Joe Huebner. Joe is exhibiting recent paintings and other works. Words cannot really describe this exhibition – you must see it in person!

Come as you are with pen and paper and write a poem from an exhibit piece that inspires, knocks your socks off, shakes your core, or, heck, puzzles the mind. We’ll write and share with the artists and one another; it’s sure to be a blast.

The deadline to submit is this Sunday at midnight Mountain Time!
Backwards/Forwards invites artists to submit handmade prints that consider time as material, memory, pressure, inheritance, repetition, rupture, and possibility. Time may be experienced as linear, circular, layered, transparent, opaque, fragmented, geological, ancestral, intimate, political, or otherworldly. This exhibition asks artists to look both backward and forward: toward histories that shape us, futures we imagine or fear, and the present moment where those forces meet.
We are thrilled to have Terran J. Last Gun as our juror. Terran J. Last Gun, Saakwaynaamah’kaa (Last Gun), (b. 1989, Browning, MT) is an enrolled Piikani citizen and visual artist based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Last Gun’s work centers around the process of color exploration and visual documentation of nature, cosmos, cultural narratives, and personal experiences. Often employing geometric aesthetics, he is contributing to an ancient Niitsitapi North American narrative.

A wonderful new Airbnb has opened on historic Chihuahua Hill in Silver City. My dear friend, Annabelle Britton, has spent the last few years lovingly renovating one of Silver City’s oldest adobe houses. The adobe is a charming blend of old-world architectural restoration, highlighting hand-hewn wood floors, salvaged wood details, exposed original adobe brick, and vaulted ceilings. Located two blocks from downtown, this property is truly wonderful!
