Two new exhibitions will open at Light Art Space in November. On Saturday the 2nd, work by the Western New Mexico University Art Club will open with a reception 4pm to 7pm in the West Gallery. Sex, Lies and Pinhole Photography, work by Nancy Spencer and Eric Renner, will fill the North and Flash galleries November 15th – January 5th, with a reception on Friday the 15th, 5pm – 7pm. Sex, Lies, and Pinhole Photography
This exciting exhibition of the pinhole photography and assemblages features the work of Nancy Spencer and Eric Renner two artists who have worked individually and collaboratively for decades. Images from many bodies of work will be exhibited, both black and white and color.
Spencer and Renner are known internationally for their pinhole art work and as the co-directors of Pinhole Resource, a non-profit dedicated to furthering information about pinhole and zone plate photography. Renner is the author of “Pinhole Photography: From Historic Technique to Digital Application”, now in it’s fourth edition. They founded and co-edited “Pinhole Journal” for 22 years. Spencer and Renner have exhibited their work internationally and have taught pinhole and zone plate workshops throughout the world. Spencer and Renner live in the Mimbres Valley, 45 minutes from Silver City, NM.

The Silver City Art Association is pleased to present the Red Dot Weekend at the Galleries on October 11th – 14th, 2019. Located in historic downtown Silver City, this annual event is in its 21st year and continues to grow in popularity. Twenty-five unique art galleries will feature the work of over 100 artists working in a variety of media. Experience this self-guided tour of fine-art exhibitions, art demonstrations, and musical happenings where you can meet the artists, purchase local art, enjoy fine dining and celebrate all that is uniquely Silver City.
This exhibition features the work of 5 female printmakers from Tucson, Arizona. Jo Andersen, Penny Batelli, Norma Galindo, Maria Lee, and Glory Tacheenie-Campoy present a variety of techniques including mono-prints, etching, linocuts, letterpress and solar plate printing in two and three-dimensional forms.

Obsession: A Juried Exhibition of hand-pulled prints Presented by Light Art Space sponsored by the Southwest Print Fiesta
OBSESSION is an exhibition of hand-pulled prints responding to the idea of a compulsive preoccupation with an object, idea, person, place, memory, phobia, pattern, thought, image, shape, word, and more. This exhibition will highlight the many visual guises that infatuation can take and challenge the viewer’s relationship to their own habitual fixations and proclivities.

Ambos Lados International Print Exchange
“Ambos Lados” means both sides. This print exchange was organized from both sides of the border by Manuel Guerra of Horned Toad Prints in El Paso, and by Adrian Aguirre and Beatriz Rivas of Taller Grafica Libre in Zaachila, Oaxaca. The 158 prints are fairly evenly split between the two countries – with 72 from Mexico, 80 from the United States, and 6 from other countries, Australia, Canada, Cuba & Ireland.

Join us to hear Diana speak about her artwork and working methods and get a preview of the gum bichromate process before the workshop. Original prints will be shown.
A photographer for over 35 years, Diana’s work has been widely exhibited and published. Specializing in 19th century printing techniques, her images have been included in a number of books, including Pinhole Photography: Rediscovering a Historic Technique (2004), by Eric Renner; Robert Hirsch’s Exploring Color Photography Fifth (& Sixth) Edition: From Film to Pixels (2011; 2015); in Jill Enfield’s Guide to Photographic Alternative Processes: Popular Historical and Contemporary Techniques; and in Christopher James’ The Book of Alternative Photographic Processes (2015). She is a featured artist in Christina Z. Anderson’s Gum Printing: A Step-by-Step Manual, Highlighting Artists and their Creative Practice (2017), and also in Clay Harmon’s recently released Polymer Photogravure: A Step-by-Step Manual, Highlighting Artists & their Creative Practice (2019).
A native North Carolinian, Diana lives and works in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she received her MA in English Literature and Creative Writing from North Carolina State University. She teaches workshops throughout the country, including at the amazing Art Intersection, and in her beautiful backyard studio.
Diana is represented by the Ryan Gallery at Art Intersection in Gilbert, Arizona, and by Panopticon Gallery, located in Boston, Massachusetts.

The modern/contemporary sculptures of Art Peterson range from abstract to whimsical, often including found objects. Mimi Calise Peterson’s multilayered, mixed media works on paper and canvas present a new way of seeing the world.

This Friday, from 4pm – 7pm, join us for the opening reception of Adobero: Honoring Lyle. For over 30 years Lyle Hymer Thompson designed and build custom adobe homes in New Mexico, Arizona and California. Each house is a unique mud sculpture that interacts with the environment bringing the outside world in. This informal exhibition features photographs of many of his creations along with artifacts and personal testimonials by many of his clients and friends. Lyle will be attending the reception.
