State of the Gallery

State of the Gallery

Greetings, Friends!

At Light Art Space, we are so grateful for your support. This past year, so many of you joined our new membership program and participated in our Seven Year Itch Auction, donating your artwork and also bidding and purchasing. Both programs were successful, and I would like to update you on the gallery’s status.

We enter 2026 in much better financial condition. With your help, we were able to hire a gardener to improve the event space/sculpture garden. We have replaced many of the burned-out gallery lights and paid our property taxes.  The most exciting news is that we employed an engineer and plumber from Las Cruces, and I believe they solved our septic odor problem! We have struggled for 5 years to identify the problem, and now it appears it is solved. We don’t know for sure since the odor is intermittent, but I am quite optimistic about the outcome.

Next, our engineer is working on designs to add AC to the gallery and studio. The AC is needed because our summers have become hotter. With our AC, we cannot offer summer workshops. We will soon solicit bits from contractors and see where we stand. Our current funds are not enough to cover the costs, so I am applying for a few grants- fingers crossed!

Our membership program is ongoing, and annual renewals begin July 1st.  We have two donation opportunities: Membership (https://lightartspace.com/annual-membership/) and the Building Fund (https://lightartspace.com/donate/).

We have great programming in 2026, including an open call to Forms of Decotion. Here are a few upcoming events:

We are ready to welcome February with normal hours: Thursday 11-4, Friday and Saturday 11-5, and Sunday 11-3. Also by appointment.

Cheers! Karen and Nigel
