Build Your Own Dream Boat
Come play with materials and your imagination! No experience needed – only a willingness to experiment and dream. Each participant will construct at least one little sailboat, using mostly recycled cardboard, papers (music and maps), fibers (vintage fabrics, handkerchiefs), twigs, twine and personal found objects. All materials provided but participants may bring personal found objects to personalize their boats.
About Instructor Kathleen Koopman: Kathleen’s work focuses on assemblage, using found objects, rust, maps, music, old photographs, etc. Her process is to create a narrative with memories and dreams intertwined, exploring metaphors associated with boats, creating ethereal, evocative installations. Part collector, part archivist, part archeologist, and part researcher, Kathleen delights in the randomly found, she studies and researches, arranges and organizes, then displays and photographs, visually exploring their past and provenance. After a career in book design and illustration, she taught art for twelve years; Kathleen now devotes her time to being her Tucson studio and putting together all the collections of things she has amassed over the years.
