Art Peterson Bio

Art Peterson was born and raised in Connecticut.  In 1976, he and   his wife Mimi moved to Pennsylvania.  In 1985 Art began woodworking as an apprentice to a maker of 18th and 19th century reproduction furniture.  He remained with this furniture shop for over 20 years, perfecting his hand skills and developing his own furniture designs.  Major influences on his work are Wharton Esherick, George Nakashima and Alexander Calder.

While his own designs are modern/contemporary, his furniture incorporates traditional joinery for strength and durability.  His sculptures and constructions range from abstract to whimsical, often including found objects.

Art has had many commissions for his work over the years.  He has shown and sold throughout the Philadelphia, PA area and in Silver City, NM.
